Second Semester

Each semester in WASE consists of four subjects. The second semester includes:

Advanced Programming Techniques

The course introduces techniques for solving non-trivial problems by programming.
At the end of the course the student should be able to:

  • Design of algorithms as solutions to problems;
  • Use of abstraction and data organization for implementing algorithms; and
  • Analyze the efficiency of programs.

Discrete Structures For Computer Science

Introduction to discrete mathematical structures; Formal logic and predicate calculus; Sets, relations and functions; Proof techniques; Graphs and trees; Primes, factorization, greatest common divisor, residues and application to cryptology; Boolean algebra; Permutations, combinations and partitions; Recurrence relations and generating functions; Introduction to error-correcting codes; Formal languages and grammars, finite state machines.

Mathematics – II

At the end of the course, the student will in a position to:
  • Apply the ideas to solving problems in Linear programming, Statistics
  • Understand how and where to apply Numerical methods
  • Understand how and where the ideas fit in the overall scheme of knowledge gained
Probability & Statistics

Probability spaces; conditional probability and independence; random variables and probability distributions; marginal and conditional distributions; independent random variables, mathematical exceptions, mean and variance, Binomial Poisson and normal distribution; sum of independent random variables; law of large numbers; central limit theorem; sampling distributions; tests for mean using normal and student’s distributions; tests of hypotheses; correlation and linear regression.
